Does Running Burn Belly Fat?

There sure is a lot of products, gadgets and gizmo’s that promise to get rid of belly fat. The question , does running burn belly fat is actually a very good one. We are bombarded with products on television, the internet and magazines and because of this we often get mislead into thinking that losing weight is about which product or diet you are using.

Running is one of the most fundamental exercises. You can argue that your body was designed to run. Think back to the primaeval man (or woman) and its easy to see how their very existence revolved around running. However, the modern man seems to be stuck to the coach and watching people run after a ball on a TV screen is about as much running exercise most people get these days.

Belly fat is usually the result of a lack of exercise combined with a bad diet. For most adults, the belly area is where fat tends to settle and accumulate. Its the first place we tend to gain weight and its also the last place where we tend to lose weight. Belly fat can be very hard to lose simply because it tends to be a large mass that can be hard to break down.

Whether running burns belly fat or not is really a no-brainer. To lose belly fat you simply have to lose body far and the best way to do that is through cardiovascular exercise. You have to raise your heart rate and in doing so your body starts burning more calories.

What makes running particularly good is the fact that running can raise your heart rate radically. It engages a lot of different muscle groups which quickly boosts your metabolism. One of the most active muscle groups during running is not your legs but rather the core area. This means that the muscles around the abdomen are actively engaged when you run.

Although targeting the muscles around the belly will not cause you to lose weight in that area, it definitely does promote muscle tone. One of the great myths of losing belly fat is that you have to do sit-ups. Nothing could be further from the truth. You simply have to focus on cardiovascular exercise and focus on overall fat loss. When you lose body fat, you will lose belly fat.

Running can be a challenge if you gained 20 extra pounds and you haven’t been running much lately. It can be painful on your joints and it can be very demanding on your poor fitness. Its important to start slow and gradually build up your strength and your stamina. Running will help you burn belly fat faster than anything out there but unless you can run for 30 minutes at a good pace, its probably not going to be that effective for you.

Once you start building strength and fitness you have to focus on two things if you want to maximize fat loss. The first is on endurance. The longer you can run for the more fat your body will burn. You also want to focus on intensity because the harder you go the greater the demand will be on your muscles and the more fat you will burn.

So, does running burn belly fat? For sure. Its important that you start today. Do not put it off. Running is a terrible exercise of you only think about it and if you find reasons to procrastinate. However, its a great exercise when you just do it.
