The Myths Of Losing Belly Fat

Losing belly fat can be a real struggle. It’s become an epidemic and living up to those sexy images of movie stars is but a distant dream for most. Abdominal fat is more than just an unattractive nuisance. Recent studies have shown just how dangerous excess abdominal fat really is and some even clam that it can knock years off your life. So, how do we lose belly fat?

Let’s start by looking how we get belly fat in the first place. We all know that eating wrong and a lack of exercise is what causes the build up of unwanted fat. The abdominal region is just one area where “nasty fat” tends to settle and years of bad eating habits can quickly build a lot of belly fat.

When it comes to losing belly fat, the tired old methods simply don’t work. Unfortunately we’ve all been lead to believe the lies of fat loss. These myths are so ingrained in out culture that we’ve become attached to it – which explains why everyone is trying harder to lose belly fat without losing any.

Myth #1 – Go On A Diet
Diets are the stupidest invention of the 21st century and while some companies line their pockets from selling stupid eating plans, the fact remains that diets don’t work – at least not in the long term. Diets only slow down your metabolism and makes your body better at storing fat. When you whine off the diet you usually gain even more weight and your body now stores even more fat.

Myth #2 – Avoid Fat
Logical, but stupid the reasoning that eating fat makes you fat is just plain wrong. Yes, eating the wrong kinds of fats is and will always be bad for you, but low fat diets are as useless as anything. In fact one of the most effective ways of losing belly fat is with good fats.

Myth #3 – Avoid Sugar
Just as stupid as the avoid fats philosophy, but with a bit more truth attached to it. In trying to avoid sugar, most people opt for “sugar free” products which basically contain replacement sweeteners. These sweeteners are known to have a toxic effect that can add inches to your waistline.

Myth #4 – Do Sit-ups and Crunches
We all tend to wanna do sit ups when we see that protruding belly in the mirror, thinking that sit-ups will burn belly fat. Unfortunately it does not work that way. In fact, it actually has a negative effect since crunches can firm up your abdominal muscles and protrude the fat around your stomach even further.
